Meet the Guru of our boys.
Otto takes our meditation sessions to another level. He has a 6th sense for someone in the group dealing with something difficult. He has been known to clip clop over and gently put his head next to their shoulder and stay a while. If you happen to be that person it can be profoundly moving... the sweet warm breath is an added bonus. Otto is a kind and gentle soul and for clients who get nervous by their size he breaks down those concerns with his kind approach and gentle heart.
Paddy will always be the baby of the group. He is 18 hands and by horsey standards that's huge. However, as he came to us when he was just approaching 2 years old, he'll always be a baby to us. Possibly for this reason he has never quite grown out of his cheeky habits... throwing his feed bucket every time it's empty is just one of his party tricks. However, when it comes to our meditation sessions, he is often the first one to respond. As he and Otto are like brothers in arms and are inseparable, they are usually in together for our sessions.
Ferdy being a stallion has a mind and will of his own which I feel he chooses to share with us. That being said he is the most gentle and obliging horse imaginable. When it comes to meditating Ferdy has conditions - he wants to join in but only if he isn't the centre of attention. I have learnt from experience that going into his stable and including him is pointless. It's too intrusive for him and he can't cope at all. If however I go next door to Sam and he thinks I can't see, he's off in moments. In one group session Ferdy was 2 stables down but the collective gentle energy must have hit him like a wave as he lay down, curled up and snored loudly. Everybody heard him.
How did meditating with Heavy Horses come about? Well, it is all down to Sam. He had been suffering from a hoof injury and was very wary about peoples intentions when trying to pick his foot up. We discovered James French's Trust Technique which seemed to relaxed the horses and make them more receptive to new ideas and help over come any concerns. The horses reactions were so positive. We quickly realised this was a thing and this was an experience we needed to share for others to benefit from the calming presence of these Gentle Giants.
Sam really enjoys the group sessions as well as the one to ones. He isn't fazed by the number of people and is generally the first to respond. Out of all the horses he is by far the most sensitive to his environment and I sense he is a worrier, so believe he benefits greatly from these sessions.
